Abstract
Objective To investigate the treatment of hydrocephalus caused by pineal region tumors.Methods The treatment of hydrocephalus caused by 56 pathologically confirmed pineal region tumors were analyzed retrospectively.Results Before operation,ventricular drainage was performed in 1 case.ventriculo -peritoneal shunt was in 2 cases.During operation,ventriculo- cisternal shunt was done in 35 cases,no treatment in 15 cases,ventricular drainage in 3 cases.Ventriculo - peritoneal shunt was carried in 12 cases,in which hydrocephalus was not relieved after tumor remove.Conclusions Intraoperative ventriculo-cisternal shunt (Torkildsen's procedure) is safe and effective for the majority of patients with obstructive hydrocephalus caused by pineal region tumors.
