Abstract

In Algeria, little importance is given to the coverage of sanitation services compared to the coverage of water supply services and even less importance is given to the purification. Indeed, for coverage of sewerage network in the order of 85%, only 20% of collected wastewater is treated in Algeria.In the town of Bechar, the sewage discharged into El Saura river which is a factor behind pollution in the city, which leads one to open with all the adverse consequences on the health of the population and causing damage to the environment. Pollution that takes a long time to disappear, causing contamination even with judicious control. There is much to do to stop such infiltration of wastewater into groundwater. The implementation of pollution control systems is a remedy to this harmful problem and also for a reuse of treated wastewater.The objective of this work to test the effectiveness of a sand filter system to purify the domestic wastewater of the city of Bechar. Our experimental device consists of a plastic can of 45cm length, 35cm width and 30cm height (5cm gravel 8/15, and 5cm of gravel 3/8) and sand (10cm).
