Abstract

An inter-incisal appliance is described which uses the vertical forces of occlusion to correct deep overbite and to apply inter-incisal torque. It is suggested that reduction of overbite may facilitate antero-posterior correction of arch relationships during the second stage of treatment. An incisor torquing appliance with a segmented base plate and extra-oral traction is used to apply lingual root torque to the upper incisor teeth and simultaneously to correct the disto-occlusion. A final stage of treatment established an improved inter-incisal occlusion.
