Abstract

SUMMARYOrganic compounds causing chemical oxygen demand (COD) must he eliminated from electroless plating solutions. In general, an electrolytic oxidation method has been applied for the reduction of COD bearing spent plating solution. However, removal efficiency decreases with the decrease of COD concentrations. Accordingly, photo-chemical and chemical decompositions have been investigated as treatment for a low concentration of COD. COD can be removed effectively by ultra violet (UV) light irradiation. The removal rate is increased by the addition of ferrous or ferric ions to the treatment solution. The highest removal rate was shown by the addition of hydrogen peroxide during UV exposure.
