Abstract

The results of a comprehensive and coherent study for a better understanding of the extraction of Cr(VI) by Aliquat 336 in hydroxide form are presented. Distribution data were obtained under conditions typical of waste rinsewater generated in chromium electroplating. A solvent extraction process was developed to recover and concentrate chromium from the rinsewater. The feasibility of the process to remove chromium to a level meeting very stringent environmental requirements was demonstrated with automated mixer-settler solvent extraction units.
