Abstract
To the Editor. —Each of the first three articles in the September 1982 issue (Archives1982;39:533, 534-539, and 540-544) commented that no specific medical therapy for human neurocysticercosis is available. However, the new drug praziquantel has recently been found in many cases to be effective against live (as opposed to calcified) cysticerci in the brain. 1-4 Two other reports of the successful treatment of cysticercosis in humans need to be evaluated. 5,6 One of them is particularly interesting: it states that 96% of 500 patients with cysticercosis of the CNS showed good to excellent improvement after specific radioimmunotheraphy. 5 Should these results be confirmed in an independent investigation, this method of treatment would represent a revolutionary advance in the treatment of cerebral cysticercosis.
