Abstract
SUMMARY Caecotomy was performed on nine sick horses in which the caecum was firmly impacted and medical treatment had failed. The right flank was the approach used for laparotomy and the apex of the caecum for caecotomy. Evacuation of the caecal contents was performed by pulling the caecum out of the abdominal cavity and opening the apex of the organ.
