Abstract

Synthetic luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) was used for induction of ovulation in 39 women with secondary amenorrhea. Based on preliminary experiments, daily doses of 50 to 200 µg were administered either intramuscularly or as an intravenous infusion. The effect of a single application of LH-RH was disappointing. Satisfactory results, however, were obtained when LH-RH was administered after stimulation with clomiphene or with human menopausal gonadotropins in patients who had previously not responded to clomiphene therapy. Three women became pregnant after this treatment. In one patient an ovulatory cycle could be induced with prolonged intramuscular injections of LH-RH.
