Abstract
Recent studies by Dochez and the Dicks in the treatment of scarlet fever, and by Birkhaug1in the treatment of erysipelas, have focused attention on the treatment of acute infectious diseases in general. Advances in the treatment of scarlet fever by specific serum offer definite steps forward in the handling of this specific infectious and contagious disease. Various forms of treatment of other infections have been described in the last few years which have also done much to reduce the mortality and diminish the morbidity rate of these diseases. For the purpose of this paper I have reviewed the histories of the patients who were admitted to the contagious disease ward of the New Orleans Charity Hospital for the last eleven months, during which time I have been connected with this particular service. I will touch briefly on the treatment of the diseases that are quarantined in this ward,
