Abstract
Four adult acrophobic subjects were assigned to each of the following three conditions: (1) contact desensitization (CD) treatment; (2) treatment which involved all components of CD treatment except physical contact with the therapist (Non-TCD); or (3) no treatment. Results suggested that therapistcontact is a powerful therapeutic agent. CD treatment produced significantly greater reductions in fear and avoidance of heights than did the other conditions. Non-TCD and control treatments did not differ beyond chance.
