Abstract
Oral mucositis is a radiotherapy sequel of head and neck cancer patients, one of the main causes of pain during antineoplastic treatment. In this context, low-intensity laser therapy aids in preventing and healing oral mucositis. This study aims to report a 4-case series of patients subjected to neck and head cancer therapy as well as to show how oral mucositis progression occurred after low-intensity laser therapy was used during the antineoplastic treatment. We used a 21-point red radiation protocol at 1 J for prevention and treatment of oral mucositis into the oral cavity ruling out the primary tumor sites and 1 J of infrared radiation in case of painful symptoms. In World Health Organization (WHO) scale, we observed an improvement of both pain symptoms and oral mucositis healing after red radiation laser therapy.
