Abstract

This chapter discusses three treaties: the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Treaty between Finland and Sweden on the Guarantees in the Law of 7 May 1920 on the Autonomy of the Aland Islands, and Treaty of Peace with Turkey. The discussion of the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, signed by the victorious Allies of World War I on the one hand and by the new Republic of Austria on the other on 10 September 1919, includes articles for Section V, Part III Protection of Minorities. The second discussion throws light on new guarantees to be inserted in the autonomy law, especially the preservation of the Swedish language in the schools. It also talks about Province of Aland. The Treaty of Peace with Turkey between the British Empire, France, Italy, Japan, Greece, Romania and the Serb-Croat-Slovene State, on one hand, and Turkey, on the other, on 24 July 1923, also discusses Protection of Minorities. Keywords: Aland Islands; Guarantees in the Law; Inter-war Period; Protection of Minorities; Treaty between Finland and Sweden; Treaty of Peace with Turkey; Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye
