Abstract

Summary : The revision of a series of information allows us to discuss some questions related to contacts between societies living North and South of the Alps between the beginning ofthe V millennium and the middle of the V millennium BC, period which coincides with the development of peasant societies and the gradual introduction of metallurgy. These finds often relate to jewels and prestige goods made of green stone from the Piedmont, flint from the Veneto and Trentino Pre-Alps, cor al and Mediterranean shells and they appear in funeral and household assemblages in Switzerland, South Germany and Austria. In addition, some identical ceramics found on both sides ofthe alpine chain, as well as different Mediterranean plant species discovered on some sites of Eastern Switzerland and South Germany confirm ease contacts during recent prehistory.
