Abstract

Consider a flat‐layer model of the earth with constant velocity in each layer. If primary reflections are recorded at two offset positions on the surface for each reflecting horizon, then the observed traveltime data are sufficient to reconstruct the thickness and velocity of each layer. An exact mathematical formulation for this procedure could be implemented for processing seismic data. The algorithm is sensitive to errors in picked traveltimes.
