Abstract
Malocclusions are an abnormality in the relationship of teeth due to their position and/or a discrepancy in jaw length and shape. Malocclusions are significant in our domestic species as they are a potential source of damage to the oral tissues, a potential source of pain, and may inhibit the normal masticatory function. They therefore need to be identified early in life before significant complications arise. The first article in this two-part series will help the reader identify common abnormalities present, while the second article will offer a variety of treatment options that are available in order to produce a comfortable and functional occlusion.
