Abstract

Adaptation to the patient's clinical situationIn Spain, cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of mortality (about 30%). Its treatment and prevention is stablished according to the patient's clinical situation and the total cardiovascular risk, selecting the more adequate strategy. The Systematic Coronary Risk Estimation (SCORE), which estimates the 10-year risk of fatal cardiovascular disease, is recommended for risk assessment. In this chapter, the global treatment of cardiovascular disease is addressed. TreatmentThe first intervention for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular risk factors is based on controlling the lifestyle. Smoking cessation, healthy dietary habits, physical activity, avoiding sedentary behavior, weight control and psychosocial support are capital. In addition, reaching blood pressure, lipids and glucose goals are imperative to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events and cardiovascular mortality.
