Abstract
The following article presents an application of techniques coming from the cognitive behavioral therapy in a case of major depression, dysthymia and persistent suicidal ideation. The patient (66 years old woman) with a large history of resistant symptoms, signs in a psychiatric hospitalization plant after making a drug binge. Once we evaluated through a functional analysis the antecedents, consequences, personality, her biographical history and targeted problems into three areas (cognitive, behavioral and physiological), we designed a 3 months long cognitive behavioral treatment program, with a frequency of one hour three times per week. After that period we verified an improvement in the mental, emotional, functional and social areas, as well as a disappearance of suicidal ideation, so we proceeded to discharge the patient for improvement.
