Abstract

Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong. is native forest species with water impermeable seeds coats. Because it is a pioneer species and to have fast growth in field, it presents great potential in recomposition programs of degradated areas. This work had for objective to evaluate physical and chemical treatments in overcoming of dormancy in seeds. The following treatments had been applied: T 1 – control (seeds without scarification); T 2 – chemical scarification; T 3 – mechanical scarification with sandpaper; T 4 – mechanical scarification with sandpaper, followed of immersion in water; T 5 – crunched seeds; T 6 – crunched seeds, followed of immersion in water; T 7 – mechanical scarification in blender; T 8 – mechanical scarification in blender, followed of immersion in water. The following parameters were analyzed: emergency, index of emergency speed, average time of emergency and lenght of the hypocotyl. The mechanical scarification with sandpaper, without or with immersion in water, is efficient method to overcoming of dormancy coats in Enterolobium contortisiliquum seeds .
