Abstract
The main eating disorders (ED) are anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN) and binge eating disorder (BED). AN is defined as the refusal to maintain a minimally normal body weight, fear of gaining weight and body image disturbance. BN is characterized by recurrent over-eating episodes with feeling of loss of control, followed by compensatory behaviors. In BED similar episodes of overeating are presented, but without any compensatory behavior. Obesity is not officially an ED, but treating it as such could lead to promising new therapeutic options.Spanish lifetime prevalence of eating disorders is estimated from 4.1 to 6.41%. The clinic will depend on the severity of the disorder and the evolutionary state, organic complications are common and can endanger life, and the underlying psychiatric comorbidity is common. The diagnostic criteria are established by the DSM-5 and ICD-10. Psycho-pharmacological and psycho-therapeutic approaches in ED are designed to restore normal nutritional status, normalize eating habits, solve somatic alterations, and treat mental comorbidity, if any.
