Abstract

Mood disorders are a set of psychiatric illnesses in which abnormal moods are observed. Most mood disorders are chronic and recurrent in nature, entailing a deterioration in the subject's functioning and thus hindering the person's adaptation to their daily life. Together with anxiety disorders, they are among the most common psychiatric disorders. This update aims to provide an overview of the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of the most severe and relevant mood disorders.
