Abstract

A connection between the quantity of sodium, trapped during the hydrothermal growth process of quartz, and the quantity of colloidal inclusions is established. The trapping of the inclusions is considered as burial of remnants of the adsorbed film of the solution by the growth layers. The theoretical number of trapped inclusions as a function of growth rate and temperature agrees with the experimental results.
