Abstract

Single domain Gd–Ba–Cu–O bulk samples 25 mm in size were melt textured in air, and their superconducting and field-trapping properties were studied. The J c and field-trapping properties were improved by employing the Ba-rich GdBa 2Cu 3O y composition and the fine Gd 2BaCuO 5 starting powder. Furthermore, the addition of Ag was effective to enhance the trapped magnetic field, since the perfect symmetric distribution was obtained without a weak link. The maximum value of the trapped field of the Ag-added bulk was 1.2 T at 77 K.
