Abstract

Transverse thermomagnetic effects (Ettingshausen and Nernst effects) are discussed for a variety of phenomenological models of Josephson-coupled superconducting systems. Analytic expressions for a possible thermal force acting on Josephson vortices in a single Josephson junction are derived. The temperature dependence of the associated transport line entropy is illustrated. The thermal force appropriate to vertices in multilayer and granular structures is mentioned.
