Abstract

The transverse energy production in ultrarelativistic proton-nucleus collisions is investigated in a simple microscopic model based upon a Glauber mult-scattering formalism of independent proton-proton collisions. The model treated is similar to the "Wounded Nucleon Model" with uncorrelated transverse energy production. Energy degradation of the projectile as it cascades through the target nucleus is included in a simple way so that analytical results can be obtained. The data at 400 GeV and 800 GeV proton lab energy on several nuclei can be reproduced very well within this parameter-free model whereas the 200 GeV data cannot. Effects of having a deformed target nucleus are found to be negligible in the case of 184W.
