Abstract

This paper discusses shear flow for a theory of isotropic liquids which differs from that for a Newtonian liquid solely by allowing angular velocity to be an independent variable. With the particular constitutive theory employed, one finds that transverse secondary flows occur despite the symmetry of the problem. These effects should prove more readily detectable in practice than existing predictions for such theory of variations in viscosity at small gapwidths.
