Abstract

Objectives. The aim of the study was to analyze evidence based data from existing sources, regarding the role and the efficacy of transurethral Thulium:YAG laser vapoenucleation in benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment. Material and methods. Google Scholar and PubMed search engines were used to find evidence based data regarding the role of transurethral Thulium:YAG laser vapoenucleation in benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment. The following keywords were used for search: laser vapoenucleation, ThuVEP. Results. There were identified 35 scientific publications that reflect current evidence regarding the role of Thulium:YAG laser vapoenucleation of prostate in benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment. Conclusions. Thulium vaporization: YAG laser is an innovative and promising technique in the treatment of large benign prostate hyperplasia. Minimal blood loss and very low rate of reoperations after Thulium:YAG laser surgery, demonstrate the safety and durability of the method. At the same time, the excellent morphofunctional results obtained denote a maximum efficiency due to the complete removal of benign prostatic hyperplasia tissue. It is strictly necessary to carry out a randomized clinical trial in order to establish definitive indications and recommendations in widespread use of this method.
