Abstract

The world has recently witnessed a great tendency towards rapid urban development. This has been accompanied by an increase in the population and a development in the uses of the land, which changes the reality of transport and increases its problems over time. The city of Mansour suffers from traffic jams in certain parts of its road network due to the increase in population and the shift in the land use, which doubles the number of trips generated from them and the number of trips attracted to it. The development of transport problems is also related to the development of transportation planning methods and methods as a result of the need for a quick tool capable of keeping pace with rapid urbanization and the resulting problems accompanying it. Thus, there has been a trend toward simulations and traffic modeling to predict the behavior of this complex system (transport network system). Technological development has helped to provide many software packages that simulate these systems and provide the possibility to model their behavior. This study was based on a number of studies and proposals related to the subject. It focused on the deficiencies in the traditional models of transport demand and its impossibility to apply in developing cities. Transport planning is based on forecasting traffic demand, and the traditional methodology cannot be applied to The study area for the needs of social, economic and demographic data which are not available and needs high cost, that require to adopt a methodology for transport demand suitable for situations where these data are not available and the area suffers from the rapid transformation in land use. Therefore, this research was based on a methodology for predicting dependence on traffic volumes by using TransCad program to model the reality and conditions of the transport network of the study area. Finally, the objectives of the research were to predict the OD matrix for the reality of the situation and for the future and to allocate the trips on the paths and evaluate the network.
