Abstract

Abstract Transport properties of dilute gases consisting of non-spherical molecules are described in this work via permanent and induced electric multipole moments. We separated the part dependent on the angular variables and considered it as a perturbation to the central-type intermolecular potential energy. The spherically symmetric component of the potential function was assumed to be the Lennard–Jones 12–6 form. In this work, we obtained the general expressions for non-central contributions to the collision integrals. These expressions were applied to cases of axially symmetric with respect to the z-axis. Numerical examples of the effects of non-spherical interactions are given for NO and CO.
