Abstract

Liquid membranes can serve as models of biological membranes and as a means of performing chemical separations. The efficiency of biological membranes in both separation and controlled movement of specific chemical species indicate that chemical systems which mimic these processes could be very beneficial to man. Three types of liquid membranes are described: bulk liquid membranes, diaphragm membranes and emulsion liquid membranes.
