Abstract

AbstractThe work considers the functioning of transport in the European and Circumpolar Arctic. It is determined that the transport network of the European and Circumpolar Arctic is an important part of the Arctic transport system of Russia. The article identifies local and main subsystems of the Russian Arctic transport system. The characteristics of the transport network of the European and Circumpolar Arctic are differentiated by types of transport: road, rail, water, air and pipeline. Based on the data on the activities of various modes of transport, the current configuration of the transport network of the region under consideration is analyzed. The study revealed the main problems and characteristic features of the functioning of the transport network of the European and Circumpolar Arctic: the lack of access to the main line (road transport), the need to maintain the roadbed in permafrost conditions (rail transport), the lack of dredging (water transport), etc.
