Abstract

We report on the fabrication and measurement results in relatively long (2–4 microns) quantum wires and rings. Despite the presence of elastic scattering in these geometries, quasi-ballistic transport is manifested in quantized conductance steps, similar to those observed in point contacts. In addition, the wires show a new resonance at higher temperature in the range of 50K–250K. This is attributed to a phonon inter-subband resonance. The rings show a variety of novel effects, among them classical electron focusing, and the observation of AharonovBohm oscillations in the extremely high resistance limit.
