Abstract

The influence of a radiofrequency (RF) wave in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) on the toroidal ion temperature gradient driven drift mode (ηi mode) is presented. The four-wave parametric process involving a fast magnetosonic source wave and ion cyclotron sidebands is considered. Explicit expressions for the non-linear growth rate and the associated ion thermal conductivity are derived. The stability and transport properties are found to be sensitive to the sign of, where and are the pump and the ηi mode wave vectors, respectively.
