Abstract

LAPP et al. (1963) described two methods by which tolerance had been established in a host chicken toward the tissue of a specific donor. The first method employed involved parabiosis of the chorioallantoic membranes, (Haley et al., 1964; and Hasek et al., 1958). In the second method embryonic transplants of limb buds were used to establish tolerance (Eastlick, 1941). The data presented in these reports showed that both methods had a degree of success in the conditioning of the host to accept and retain donor tissue.At this point in the work consideration was directed towards some method which might be employed with chickens or with animals of single birth where it is impossible to anastomose the foetal membranes of two embryos.
