Abstract

Background: Obstruction of the biliary tract can lead to severe complications. The common treatment of patients suffering from biliary tract obstruction is the desobliteration by endoscopic procedures. However, cannulation of common bile duct can be difficult in certain instances due to anatomical variations or obstruction at the biliary entrance level. Transpancreatic precut sphincterotomy has been described as an effective and safe technique to obtain biliary access in patients with difficult bile duct cannulation.
