Abstract

Background: Obstructive submandibular sialopathy is most commonly caused by calculi. After remaining dormant for many years mealtime syndrome ensues, causing distress during mealtimes with increasing frequency and severity. There is a considerable body of evidence suggesting that removal of the obstructive stone allows the glandular parenchyma to resume normal function.
