Abstract

Studies show that transnational law is now being used in legal practice. Lists of principles and the rules of transnational law provide a picture of the increasing richness of this new body of law. However, there has always been one core problem with respect to the practical usefulness of this concept: practitioners and academics alike find it extremely difficult to get easy and quick access to the contents of the lex mercatoria. The Center for Transnational Law (CENTRAL) at the University of Cologne hopes to change all that with the launch of its Transnational Law Database (TLDB), designed to provide the ‘missing link’ between the theories of transnational commercial law and international legal practice.
