Abstract

Different from phased-array providing only angle-dependent beampattern, frequency diverse array (FDA) produces a range, time, and angle-dependent beampattern. Nevertheless, FDA beampattern is coupling in the range, time, and angle responses. This paper proposes a range-angle-dependent transmit beamspace design for a uniform linear array FDA using multi-carrier transmission signal, namely, all the elements simultaneously transmit the signal in a frequency stepped multi-carrier transmission way. In doing so, the transmit beampattern can be decoupled and flexibly controlled in range-angle dimension. Furthermore, to resolve the range and time coupling response in the transmit beampattern, we devised three convex optimization algorithms to synthesize range-angle-dependent transmit beampattern for the multi-carrier FDA sensor. All the proposed methods are verified by the numerical results.
