Abstract

The transmission properties of the one-end-sealed (OES) metal–insulator–metal (MIM) waveguide are investigated by the finite difference time domain method. The results show that the OES MIM waveguide shows a filter-like behavior. The pass bands and stop bands in the transmission spectra are resulted from the superposition of the electromagnetic fields of the surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) reflected at the sealed end and those of the SPPs propagating towards the open end. In addition, the effects of the structural parameters of the OES MIM waveguide on the transmission properties are also studied.
