Abstract

Nowadays, more and more applications are expected to be employed on energy-limited mobile terminals (MTs), with the rapid growth of embedded platforms' computational abilities and mobile subscribes' requirements. Thus, how to save the power consumption for the MT is becoming more and more important. To this end, deploying relay stations (RSs) in cellular networks has been considered as one of the most effective techniques. In this work, we investigate how to optimize MT's transmission power in cellular networks, where two-way transmission are considered and RSs' locations, MT's path selections and bandwidth resources allocation are jointly optimized using genetic algorithm (GA). Numerical results show that MT's transmission power is significantly reduced through the optimization of our method. Furthermore, we also investigate the influences of RS's coverage on MT's transmission power, and the numerical results show that the best RS's covering radius should be 50%~70% of the cell radius.
