Abstract
Considering the international developments in the field of broadband communication it is obvious that there is a tendency towards digital transmission and switching techniques not only for speech and sound signals but also for broadband TV signals. Together with this worldwide increasing digitalization, optical signal transmission has in the meantime reached a state which permits the transmission of high bit rate signals to the subscriber.
