Abstract

Hepatitis B is a public health problem worldwide. The recent studies have demonstrated that HBV DNA is able to integrate into human sperm genome and human sperms carrying HBV genes ale able to complete fertilization normally. After the fertilization, the sperm-mediated HBV genes ale able to replicate themselves and to express their functions at mRNA and protein levels in early embryonic cells, which may cause the severe outcomes including:①becoming a new transmission of HBV via germ line;②increasing the rate of abortion, stillbirth and birth defects resulted from host gamete chromosomal abberrations induced by integration of HBV DNA;③enhancing the risk of hepatocellular tumorigenesis induced by integrated HBV gene in host genome. Key words: HBV; Vertical transmission; Human sperm; Ooeyte; Embryonic cell
