Abstract

A dual-band textile Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) sheet-like waveguide with two single-band textile diamond antennas are proposed for on-body communication system. The AMC sheet is designed to have in-phase reflection at 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz with the aim to improve the transmission between antennas. The 7 × 5 arrays of AMC and antennas are designed on fleece substrate (er=1.35, thickness = 1mm, tan δ = 0.025) with SHIELDIT fabric as the conducting patch. S parameters of the antennas are compared in two environment. The S21 transmission between antennas is enhanced up to 30db at 2.45 GHz and 20dB at 5.8 GHz when the AMC sheet is placed beneath them compared to free space environment. Significant transmission improvement has been observed for off-body placements. The transmission is enhanced because of the in-phase reflection characteristic of the AMC structure.
