Abstract
This article analyzes the published data on the aerosol transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Three groups of publications were selected: Cases of transmission by asymptomatic individuals in association with studies showing that normal breathing and speaking produce mainly micro-droplets in the aerosol;measurements of airborne particles containing SARS-CoV-2 that remain in suspension in the air for hours and are likely to be carried over distances inside buildings and outside;and finally the broader literature on the importance of aerosol transmission of infectious diseases. This commentary aims to weigh up the available evidence to address the significance of aerosols in the transmission of Covid-19 and its implications for public health protection. © 2021 John Libbey Eurotext.
