Abstract

This research focuses on translation techniques and translation quality assessment on chapter marriage and inheritance in the Al-Wajīz translation book by Al-Khalāfī. This research is part of a translation critical study using the descriptive analysis method. This study uses a qualitative approach to analyze translation techniques by applying Baker's translation techniques theory. Besides, a quantitative approach is used to explain the translation results' readability by applying a translation quality assessment theory by Nababan. In terms of translation techniques, the work shows 49 data of translation using the five Baker techniques. Those techniques are 1) more general words, 2) more neutral/expressive words, 3) cultural transfer, 4) loan words with explanations/loanwords without explanation, and 5) related paraphrases. Meanwhile, this study shows that the most accurate translation quality is the loanword with an explanation technique (86%) in terms of translation quality assessment. Furthermore, the most acceptable translation quality is the loan word technique with explanation (77%), and the translation quality with high readability quality is the loan word technique with explanation (84%).
