Abstract

This article is dedicated to the issue of translating film titles. The author examines the latest blockbusters as a material enabling not only an interesting class discussion on translation strategies, but also, or perhaps foremost, approach to titles as instruments for acquiring the knowledge of a language and culture. Film titles and methods of translating them from foreign languages are presented in the text as a class component that could help develop language competence in learners, i.e. a skill that is often overlooked in the traditional language education model, which focuses primarily on grammatical correctness and reconstruction of language patterns.
