Translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Russian version of the Hip Preservation Surgery Expectations Survey

Abstract

There are currently no validated tools for evaluating preoperative expectations from hip preservation surgery to use in Russian-speaking patients. The objective of this study was to translate and adapt the Hip Preservation Surgery Expectations Survey and to assess the reliability of it’s Russian version. The process of adaptation included forward and backward translation and pilot testing. The reliability of the final Russian version of the survey was assessed in 40 patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement. The Cronbach's alpha was 0.945 and the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.82 (95% CI, 0.56-0.93), indicating a high level of intraclass consistency and re-test reliability. The floor and ceiling effects were not detected. The median score was 87 (0-100). The Russian version of the Hip Preservation Surgery Expectations Survey is a useful and simple tool for assessing and recording preoperative expectations in a structured way, and it can be used in both clinical practice and research.
