Abstract

SYNOPSISA transitory but highly significant decrease in platelet monoamine oxidase activity was found during headache attacks in migrainous subjects and reverted to normal during attack‐free periods. This is not the result of drugs used for the treatment of migraine. It is possible that decreased platelet monoamine oxidase and 5‐hydroxytryptamine occur in response to release of an unidentified substance into the circulation during headache and, perhaps, is responsible for it. Attention is drawn to the biochemical relationship of migraine and depressive illness
