Abstract

This chapter provides instructions for conducting the seventh session of individual meaning-centered psychotherapy. The reader is instructed to help the patient to reflect upon his or her experience in light of the last six sessions. They will facilitate dialogue and reflection around the patient’s thoughts and feeling surrounding the finality of his or her experience, in light of facing important transitions and facing one’s own mortality due to cancer. Guide the patient in exploring what it has been like to share his or her cancer experiences and life stories within treatment, and how it has been to have his or her story witnessed and affirmed. Time should be given to share and explore the patient’s final “Legacy Project, ” as well as meaningful experiences within the treatment process. Time should also be allotted for the patient to offer feedback regarding his or her therapeutic experience and hopes for the future.
