Abstract

Abstract Transitional administration refers to the temporary assumption of responsibility of the principal governance functions of a state or territory by an international organization or organizations, often but not always led by the UN. The terms ‘international administration’, ‘international trusteeship’ (or ‘neo-trusteeship’), and ‘international protectorate’ are sometimes used interchangeably with that of ‘transitional administration’; however, only ‘international administration’ (or ‘international territorial administration’) is considered to be an acceptable substitute.
