Abstract

AbstractRecombination rates into traps in semiconductors are usually calculated from the corresponding ionization rates by application of the principle of detailed balance; but this procedure is only valid if the carrier distribution function is Maxwellian. Results are presented which allow the calculation of Auger and other recombination rates for an arbitrary heated carrier distribution. They are shown to reduce to the detailed‐balance results when the distribution is Maxwellian.
